Yellow Energy, Lda., based in Portugal, operates (Brain-e). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information we receive from users of the Site. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information Collection and Use

While using our Site, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information. Personally identifiable information is here designated by 'Personal Information', and can be collected in the following situations:

1) When the user registers in Brain-e;

2) When the user adds energy meters or other web-connected devices to Brain-e.

Regarding user registration, the user will be asked to fill in his name, his e-mail address, his physical address, area of residence, average electricity bill, and the energy provider. This information is used to characterize the user’s energy consumption profile and to adequate Brain-e to this profile.

The information coming from the electricity meters consist of electricity readings. The configuration of the electricity meters and their addition to Brain-e is the user’s responsibility. The frequency of these readings depends on the kind of device installed, and are collected first by the device provider and only afterwards are they shared with Brain-e, after the user has authorized Brain-e to do so. When the electricity meters are disconnected the collection of this information is suspended. The readings from the electricity meters allow the user to participate in energy challenges, to receive tips on energy saving, and to access other energy management services.

In order to fulfil Brain-e’s mission, Personal Information may be processed and shared or sold to Brain-e’s partners. The processing of Personal Information includes compulsory anonymization and aggregation of any Personal Information, thus ensuring that no information that is shared allows the identification of individual users. What is more, data will be shared with other partners only if this brings new incentives and benefits to Brain-e users, and/or if it brings additional energy savings or a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Log Data

Like many site operators, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit or use Brain-e, which we call here 'Log Data'.

This Log Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol ('IP') address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. This data is provided by third party services such as Google Analytics, which collect, monitor and analyse it. Besides this, Log Data may include information about user actions in Brain-e after log in, such as information about challenges, points and communities.

Log Data is used in the construction of metrics to assess the performance of Brain-e’s service, thus allowing the continuous improvement of the service we provide to our users and partners.


We may use your Personal Information to contact you with newsletters, marketing or other relevant information related with Brain-e.

When you register in Brain-e, you will receive a registry confirmation e-mail. You will also receive e-mails from Brain-e when you change your password. Additionally, if a Brain-e user decides to challenge you, you will receive an invitation for that challenge in your e-mail, which can be accepted or declined.


Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer's hard drive.

Like many sites, we use 'cookies' to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site.

This Privacy Policy is effective as of the 31 st January 2017, and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page. We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.
